MORE VALUABLE ANTIQUES FOUND ON EBAY

It never ceases to amaze me.  Some of the quality items "antique" dealers are willing to put up for sale on Ebay are just outstandingly atrocious.  Sometimes downright hilarious.  Take this gem for example:

This is spectacular.  And amazingly unbelievable.  Seriously?  No....not seriously.  What a work o' fart.  I don't think I have ever seen a drum more worthy of the back alley trash dumpster than this hunk of junk.  This drum is completely ruined!  Throw...it...away!

Now, glossing over the fact that the tom mount assembly is missing and the badge is utterly destroyed.... because at this point..... does it really matter?  Dude, the hoops have rotted away and split apart.  The entire shell has deteriorated.  Every bit of hardware that is left is rusted out.  Heck, one lug has already....FALLEN....OFF!

For the love of Pete...Erskine, give up!!  Let this poor drum die!  Play "Taps" and respectfully lay it to rest!  You have neglected and abused this instrument beyond all hope of repair.  Admit your crime and accept the consequences.  Geez!

But no.  Let's have a look at the wonderfully optimistic description the seller has provided:

"It has a lovely red sparkle wrap...."

W-W-W-W-W-WHAT?!

"...but it is in truly terrible condition.  The inside wooden shell has mostly rotted away and is essentially being held together by the (groovy looking) red sparkle wrap."

Yes, indeed: "Groovy" as in "noticeably warped and collapsing."  He goes on to further admit:

"I don't want to take a hoop off to photograph the inside, as I don't know if I'd be able to get it back together..."

Oh wow.  I admire the honesty of this hopeful seller but this is just sad.  It seems like at this point he would realize the reality of this trash he's peddling.  The happy salesman then adds this cheery finish:

"Though tarnished, the hardware all looks salvageable."

Um, excuse me.....DOES THIS CLAW AND TENSION ROD LOOK SALVAGEABLE TO YOU??!!

Oh, yeah.  Hit that with some metal polish and I'm sure it will shine right up!

But what makes this whole thing remarkable to me is the unbelievable asking price: One hundred and twenty-five dollars.  How could he.... possibly.... think that this drum in this condition could be worth this much money?  I.....I just have no idea.....

Okay, here we go.  Moving on.  Here is another one.  This is a Tiger's Eye Pearl bass drum.

The wrap looks....okay....

Some lugs are missing there....

No hoop on one side....

Let's look at another photo for another angle....

YIKES!!!

Have you not noticed that someone has kicked a hole in your kick drum?!  You have a little shell damage there!  Yes, quite a bit actually!  And the wrap is none the better for it I must point out.

It always makes me laugh out loud - yes, literally do an "L-O-L" - when these percussion items are described as a "Barn Find," as if that is a wonderfully-lucky and incredibly-positive opportunity for one of us...morons...to SNAG this rare item!  I guess it also makes me kind of angry, because it reinforces the misconception that a DRUM is not a MUSICAL INSTRUMENT, but just a wooden "thing," like an old toy or piece of furniture.  I mean, if you saw a Violin that was being advertised as a "Barn Find," an item that has been lying out in a non-climate-controlled building used for storing junk and/or large, smelly farm animals, would that excite you into thinking you were getting a good deal?  Or would you immediately understand that the structural integrity and tonal performance of this musical instrument made of rather-delicate, biodegradable materials has been greatly compromised?  If not, here's your violin:

It was stepped on by a cow but I'm sure it's salvageable.

The good news is the seller of the "Barn-Find" TEP Bass Drum only wants $38.50 for it.  The bad news is he wants $105.25 for shipping.....

.....and somebody actually bought it.  Yes, someone inexplicably gave money to this seller for this load of firewood and is having it carefully shipped to them.  I can only..... attempt to justify this decision by saying maybe they were after the chrome hardware?

Oh.

Well then, I have no clue.  People are weird and do strange things with their money.  What a world.  What a bizarre..... bone-headed..... world.

POST UPDATE:

Actually I was mistaken.  The Tiger's Eye drum did not sell.  It has been re-listed so if you're interested, you still have a chance.

Awesome!

In addition, I found this other red sparkle kick that is currently up for sale for only $130.00 (including shipping).  Unlike the previous pile of poop any perspicacious purchaser could perceive posthaste (or pronto, if you prefer), this bass drum looks to be in pretty good sha.....

Never mind.  I just looked at Photo #3:
