Today's featured Snare Drum Project is a Ludwig Supraphonic snare drum that I cleaned up for a friend. Other than a thorough polishing, the only thing it needed was some snare wires and a few tension rod washers. Here are the "Before" photos:
Unfortunately, the "spotty complexion" of this drum is due to the chrome peeling and chipping off of the shell and not just dirt. This cannot be improved by polishing. The chrome plating is gone in these areas and the grey metal underneath is showing through. However, the polish will greatly improve what chrome there is left on the shell, as evidenced by the following "After" photos:
Well, there you have it. That's the best I can do. With a new set of wires, however, this drum sounds fantastic, so maybe my friend can overlook the poor complexion of the shell. If he doesn't like it, I'd be happy to keep this drum and enjoy it myself.
