And now here, just in time for the State Fair is my very unique and beautiful "COTTON CANDY SPARKLE KIT." This duo-finish drumset consists of a 14 x 22" bass drum (which I have mentioned before is rather rare), an 8 x 12" tom, a 16 x 16" floor tom and a 5 x 14" snare.
Although all the drums in this grouping came from different sellers in different locations, the pink sparkle Tempro Pro tom and floor tom were both "New Old Stock" (NOS) drums that had never been part of a kit and were basically brand new, sitting in the back storeroom of some music store having never been purchased back in the day. They both arrived still wrapped in plastic bags and bearing the original Tempro drum heads, completely untouched and unplayed.
There is still a 9 x 13 that matches these two for sale on Ebay but I chose to stick with the traditional four-piece arrangement. This was for personal aesthetic purposes but also because the matter of tom-tom mounting was a bit tricky on this project. You see, the 12" tom required a 1970s "hex rod" to hold it and finding one that exactly matched this while also fitting the mounting plate on the bass drum proved to be difficult. In the end I lucked out by finding a Yamaha arm that fit the "hex hole" in the tom and mounted the drum off the cymbal stand using a multi-clamp.
