I picked up this little drum for ten bucks and soon discovered I had gotten my money's worth. That thin metal plate is covering up some substantial damage where it appeared the mount had broken away and taken part of the wood shell with it. The rims were also badly "out-of-round" and had to be replaced. New rims: $24.00. However, this little orange-sparkle still cleaned up nicely and performs as well as any MIJ tom.
RED SPARKLE APOLLO 16x16:
This 1960's Japanese Floor Tom was reasonably priced at $55.00 (plus $20.00 shipping) and was in remarkably good shape for its age. All it needed was two new heads and three rubber feet for the legs and it was ready to go (after a complete cleaning, of course). I didn't really need this drum but no one else wanted it so I took it. Red Sparkle is a very common wrap on vintage Japanese drums but floor toms (in general) are not so easy to find, so this 16 will come in handy in the future if I put together another red sparkle kit. (I already have two at present.)
ORANGE SPARKLE MERCURY 5x14:
Well, believe it or not, another quite common wrap is orange sparkle which I have found in abundance lately. This Mercury is just one of three or four orange-sparkle snares I have acquired recently, all in unique shades of orange. It didn't have any major problems and only needed some TLC so bring back the shine on its chrome.
PINK CHAMPAGNE SPARKLE TEMPRO 5x14:
This little number I refer to as my "Pepto-Bismol" Snare, given the unique color of it's wrap. You may notice it has the exact same hardware and plastic-type badge as the Mercury above. If you don't know the reason for this then you have obviously not been paying attention to my previous posts. I'm not gonna rehash that info again here, but I will tell you that I paid an outlandish and unbelievable price of $100.00 to get this beauty, the most I have ever paid for a Japanese-made drum. But this drum was in such immaculate condition that I have not had to do a thing to it since I got it. It had been kept in climate-controlled storage and still had the original Tempro heads on it. What a great find!
Well, I have other drums that I have not featured here, others that I am still working on, and still others that I have not even gotten around to yet, but there is a sample of some projects and/or transactions that I have completed.
Thank you and goodnight.
