MIRACULOUS PROGRESS ON THE 26"

After extensive research, clever planning and meticulous execution, I have succeeded in removing the unforgivable paint job on my 26" Ludwig Blue Vistalite Marching Bass Drum shell.  This was an extraordinarily risky undertaking because it is very difficult to remove the latex paint without damaging the delicate acrylic.  The secret is knowing what materials to use so that the cleanser that removes the paint does not eat into the plastic, leaving it pitted, scratched and/or cloudy.

GONE!!!

You don't have to say it.  I know it.  I'm a friggin' miracle worker.  I am the Percussion Restoration Master.  I am also the proud owner of a soon-to-be-fully-restored 26" Ludwig Blue Vistalite Marching Bass Drum.  Pardon me for a few short moments while I simply sit and admire my work, relishing just how awesome I am.

Now I must attempt to salvage the badge and refurbish those beat-up hoops!

Great work! May I ask what product you used to remove the paint? I have a 70s Ludwig amber Vistalite with primer and paint on it and have tried sanding with 120grit initially but it is taking forever! Anyways, any help would be much appreciated. Thanks!

Ah-HA! I wondered when this question would come up! My secret is called "Goof Off," a "Pro-Strength Graffiti Remover." Using the spray can version, I sprayed in small areas, allowed the product to "bubble-up" the paint, and then softly scraped it away with a PLASTIC scraper. The project took an entire afternoon, but it was a simple "Spray, wait, then scrape" process. Go to www.goofoffproducts.com to see the product. It removes paint from all kinds of surfaces, but it did not crack, scratch, "cloud" or in any way damage the Ludwig Vistalite shell. MIRACULOUS!!!

PS - Send me an email and some photos at uturn4ken@yahoo.com and let me know how things turn out for you! Is your amber Vistalite just one drum or a whole kit?
