SHININ' UP THE OL' LUDWIGS
Here are a couple of old cowbells from my collection. These are vintage chrome bells made by Ludwig that pop up frequently on eBay. Therefore, while they are vintage and quite collectible, they are not really all that rare. You would not have much trouble acquiring a pair for yourself right now if you ran a search for them on eBay.
I believe these bells were made in the 1960s and/or 1970s and were quite popular before Latin Percussion came along and took over the cowbell market. The larger bell measures five inches and is more common in auctions, usually listed for 30 to 50 dollars depending on the condition. The smaller four-inch bell appears less frequently and typically goes for around the same price range or slightly cheaper.
To improve on my pair of cowbells, I use my professional metal polish to bring back their shine. This greatly increases their value, because most people think shiny things are worth something. This is inconsequential, however, since I have no plans to sell either of these little treasures. Like I said, go get your own.
You will see, if you examine this "After" photo closely, that many of the scuffs, scratches and spots do not come out completely. This is typical and should not alarm you. Rust stains and damage on metal inflicted by water, oils or abuse and neglect cannot always be perfectly erased, just as in love and marriage. You just have to get over it, step back and look at the big picture. Everything looks fine from a reasonable distance.....except my ex-wife, who I always stay as far away from as possible.
