RE-FOCUSING ON THE BLUE AGATE PEARL...PLEASE!

Okay, I am truly sorry.  That last post got a little crazy and unfocused.  So let me quickly brush all that aside and get back into the seriousness of this highly-acclaimed and seldom-read web log.

This is the Blue Agate* Pearl, probably the LAST drum kit I have to drag out of storage, photograph and feature.  It also happens to be one of my favorites, and one that has a LOT of backstory for me to ramble on about, so I apologize in advance.

Believe it or not, this kit started out as a Slingerland.  Yep.  Believe it or not, Ripley, and I don't mean you, Sigourney Weaver.  In the beginning I started out with a 12 and a 13 tom, followed by a bass drum and a snare shortly thereafter - all Slingerland and all randomly found in different locations.  This was before I began focusing on MIJ exclusively.  But I never found a floor tom, and soon I moved on to other things.

One day a guy contacted me and begged for the snare drum because his best friend's son had been bequeathed a Slingy BAP kit that was missing the snare and that was all he needed to complete the arrangement in honor of his dear lost friend....or whatever.  So the snare got sold.  For a very honest, reasonable and rock-bottom price, I might add.  I wasn't going to fleece the poor guy.

So, short story long, over the years BAP drums came and went.  I acquired a matching mini-snare, then I sold it.  Then I found a snare...and another mini-snare, and then I finally found a floor tom...that was an MIJ.  Just when I thought I was done, I found another snare, 12" tom and bass drum (all MIJ), bought those, and sold the 12" Slingerland tom.  So.....let me add all this up: I currently have two snares, one mini-snare, two bass drums, a floor tom, a 13 Slingy and a 12 MIJ.  Is that confusing enough for you?

Basically after the acquisition of the floor tom, I went back and replaced all the Slingerland BAPs with Japs, and entered this arrangement into the mpmm MIJ Museum.  The Slingerlands can now be found on Ebay in search of a new, loving home (except for the 12 which has already sold), and I can be found resting on my couch because I am worn out after trying to explain all this.
