THE BLACK STRATA SNARE

Here is a snare drum I found to go with my "Black Strata" drumkit:

This is a 5 x 14" wood snare that was "made exclusively for Zim-Gar Musical Instruments of Brooklyn, New York" according to the badly-tarnished badge.  But at the bottom is that old familiar phrase "Made in Japan."  So actually this is just another run-of-the-mill Japanese snare drum made out of thin luan wood and chrome-plated hardware that has been given a nice, American-sounding name and an attractive, Slingerland-style appearance.  Here to the right is a photo of the badge after I have polished it up and made it more legible.  Clicking on it will enlarge it.

And here are photos of the drum after it has been serviced and added to the rest of my Black Strata drums:

Although the layers on the snare are a little bit wider and it could almost be called a "Gray Strata," I think it goes fine with this kit.
