RANDOM THIRTEEN-INCH TOM

Every once in a while someone will somehow wander onto this webpage and notice what I do here.  On even rarer occasions they might leave a very brief comment.  But then there are those most extraordinary occurrences when a person actually takes the time to contact me with a question or further discussion in a personal email.

It was one of these extremely infrequent encounters that led to my possessing this Majestic 13" Black Pearl tom-tom.  This guy from Florida stumbled across my blog, noticed I like to work on these Made-in-Japan "off-brand" drums and decided to offer me this random drum he had lying around his place (for a nominal fee plus shipping, of course).

That's how I managed to become the new owner of this random Majestic tom.  I don't have any other drums that match it but you never know.  I might come across some one day.  It has happened before.

These photos show the drum now that I have cleaned it up.  The "Before" photos that were emailed to me were unfortunately lost when I haphazardly deleted the emails after the transaction was complete, and I didn't take the time to make new ones before I started in on this project.

This is a shame, too, because I would really like to show you how darkened and dull this badge was before I shined it up.  The amazing contrast would cause you to say, "Wow."  Or not.

Anyway, this is just a cool, random drum that I have restored and added to my collection.  Maybe I will do something with it in the future.  The most unique characteristic about it is the "staggered" lugs.  Did you notice that?  The top and bottom lugs on this drum do not line up.  That was a funky design with which they experimented just to be different.  It didn't really catch on, but it is an interesting twist on traditional construction.
