The green acrylic snare drum shell I custom ordered has now arrived. After my initial elation, it was immediately obvious that my brilliant plan was flawed. I had made a minor mistake in my calculations.
Yes, I am afraid I am two lugs short. I thought a 5 x 14" Vistalite snare drum had eight lugs, and it turns out they have ten. So in addition to needing two additional "Bow-tie" lugs, I also require a pair of "ten-hole" rims instead of the "eight-hole" ones I had purchased in advance.
The good news is: The rest of my Ludwig parts fit perfectly, including the "blue/olive" badge and grommet that make this drum truly look like a genuine, vintage Vistalite. The bad news is: Right in the middle of this important restoration project, I have developed another kidney stone.
So unfortunately my snare will have to remain in the "Waiting for Parts" stage while I struggle through my illness. Hopefully I will soon be able to post some photos of a completed project here, once I have rounded up the necessary parts and gotten rid of the unnecessary "part" inside of me. I will not, however, be posting any photos of my kidney stone. So don't you worry about that.
