Well, let me explain. This is a "Chinese" style cymbal, but it is made by Zildjian, which is a company that originally manufactured cymbals in Istanbul, Turkey. Or was it Constantinople? I don't know. It could have been Timbuktu.
But anyway, now they are made here in the United States, so their slogan is "Turkish cymbals made in the USA." That is why I can call this cymbal a "Turkish China Made in America."
The cymbal measures 18 inches, but its exact type is unknown. I don't know if it is a "China Boy High" or "China Boy Low" or what, because there is no labeling on it. It could be just a generic "China Type" made in the early days when Zildjian first began offering cymbals in this style. I know it's not a Swish or a Pang, because if it was it would be labeled as such and the seller would have surely mentioned it.
The reason I bought this cymbal was because of the reduced price, but also because I noticed it was drilled for rivets but had none. I wanted to clean up this China, put some new rivets in it and restore it to its original function. I'm weird like that. I also have tons of money to throw away on used percussion products.
So here is the finished project. The cymbal shined up pretty nice, and I have installed six new Zildjian rivets to make this bad boy sound like a rolling thunder storm. Pretty awesome. I could turn around and sell it for a huge profit but I think I will just keep it instead. I'm selfish like that. Whatta you care?
This is a close-up showing the new rivets, dude. |
