For once I am completely stumped. I have acquired a percussion instrument that I absolutely cannot identify. This is a small metallophone made up of five brass bars with resonating chambers beneath them.
I have done exhaustive research and cannot find any information on these bells other than what the seller told me. He called them "Perry & Plant bell chimes with resonating chambers." However, nowhere on the World Wide Web can I find any information on any of these words or combinations thereof.
Therefore I am at a loss. I suspect the manufacturer was a British firm, but I cannot be certain. All I know is this is an extremely rare instrument that must be fairly valuable. In any case, I am going to clean it up and restore it. All of the string work is dusty and brittle, and some of them have already snapped since these photos were taken.
PROJECT STILL UNDER CONSTRUCTION. POST-RESTORATION PHOTOS TO BE POSTED AT A LATER DATE.
