This footage is filmed from the opposite side of the stage, and offers a pretty good view of the cowbells and bar chimes I had in The Fortress. I also pull off a pretty good Neil Peart "stick flip" stunt at the break in the intro.
I have to admit, one of the hardest things I ever did in my drumming days was try to perfect Tracy Hollingsworth's drum patterns on "Answer Beyond the Pieces." It was one thing to come up with my own ideas in my own style, but having to memorize and re-create someone else's stuff was not so easy for me. It's easy to sit back, listen to another drummer play and think, "I could do that," but it proves to be more difficult when you have to actually assume the throne and play the songs just like he did! I listened to that album over and over and over, and still had trouble performing the songs the right way. At times I would think, How did he ever come up with this stuff?! Sometimes it was almost impossible for me to think like him. It definitely made me appreciate Tracy's totally different style, and taught me to further respect drummers who can perform other people's material well. I never was very good at that, and preferred sticking to my own style (because that was much easier).
